Milton Hershey School: Senior Network Engineer

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a Pre K-12 residential school and home for over 2,100 students from lower income families.

We are seeking a full-time Senior Network Engineer to join our dedicated Information Technologies team.

The Sr.

Network Engineer position is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting all aspects of the School’s data network infrastructure and related services for our 24x7x365 operation.

The school campus consists of over 250 educational, residential, and business buildings that are interconnected with our own underground cable plant.

The data network is utilized for standard computing services and also for security, building control, health, and life safety related systems.

Our computer environment consists of over 5,000 School owned Windows, Macintosh, and iPad computer devices.

In addition, we also support a wide variety of other network connected devices such as VOIP phones, personal smart phones, printers, copiers, multimedia devices, building and safety control systems, and more.

All together, we have over 10,000 nodes using our network on a daily basis.

Responsibilities Collaborate with other IT team members to design and implement network technology solutions Assist with the network, cable plant, and general technology designs for new and renovated facilities Configure, test, and install wired and wireless network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, access points, etc) Assist with the implementation and support of telecom systems and circuits Implement IT Security configurations and solutions to meet the requirements of the School Utilize network management tools to proactively monitor, analyze, and adjust the campus network to maintain and enhance network performance and reliability.

Troubleshoot and resolve network related issues in a timely manner Maintain required cable plant and network infrastructure documentation Collaborate and work with 3 rd party vendors to implement technology solutions and services The work schedule for this position in 8:00AM to 4:30PM, but this may be adjusted as needed and this position will also participate in an on-call rotation within the team to provide after-hours support as required Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree or commensurate years of experience 5 plus years of experience working as a network engineer or in a similar role In depth experience designing, implementing, and supporting large network infrastructure (cable plant, hardware and software) for a large organization In depth experience with network switching routing, wireless, network access control, firewalls, IP telephony, and other infrastructure technologies Experience with supporting critical systems, such as security, building automation, and life safety systems, that rely on the network infrastructure to function properly Experiencing with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in an efficient manner to ensure the network infrastructure is available and reliable Experience configuring and supporting network infrastructure to meet IT Security requirements Experience with network planning and analysis tools such as Wire Shark, Air Magnet, Fluke meters, etc.

Specific skills and experience with the following hardware solutions are a plus: Enterasys, Extreme, ShoreTel, Palo Alto, Aruba Excellent organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with others within a team environment Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technology Must demonstrate a high level of integrity, as all MHS Staff are considered to be role models for the MHS Students Employees are expected to participate in the life of our students to help enhance their education and provide meaningful experiences
